Born Wiesbaden, Germany and raised
in a European home, Karin traveled extensively throughout her young life as her
father (born in Prague and raised in Beirut, Lebanon) had made his career
in the Army & Air Force Exchange Service. Her mother, born and raised in
Bordeaux, France, was a French Chef, and so it was a package deal for her to
learn the process & technique of preparing wonderful gourmet meals. As a
child, Karin spoke French, Russian (grandmother was Russian) and German
prior to immigrating to the U.S. in 1960 and where then had the task of learning
English.
Karin was in the travel industry
for 19 years working for various travel agencies, Metroplex Helicopter
Co.-Dallas, TX, Braniff International Airlines-Dallas, TX, Sunbelt Commuter
Airlines-Jackson, MS and Bryan Tours, Inc.-Jackson, MS prior to opening Blaine
House B&B in 1995.
The idea came to do a Bed &
Breakfast came when Karin, with her inherited cooking interests coming from her
French mother, Nina & the inherited antiques, a Bed & Breakfast is what
she ought to do. Her devotion of creative cooking and the arts are
apparent. Always experimenting with different breakfast meals to make
guests at Blaine House B&B ask...how did you make that? Always striving
for perfection, she would like to see guests excited to come to breakfast each
morning....as they say, the most important meal of the day!
Karin's other love has always been
art. Shs is a self-taught artist who dabbles in watercolors, acrylics and oils
as a hobby. Ever since she can remember, she was fascinated by colors and
marveled at mixing colors to get the exact color she was seeking.
She soon hopes to add a line of ceramics for guests to buy!
Karin has made strides in getting
back into her artwork after years of putting it hold when working in the Travel
Industry.
Since 1995, she's devoted
some time doing her artwork as well as being an Innkeeper at
Blaine House Bed &
Breakfast in Franklin, NC which has kept her quite
busy to say the least. She recently completed a commissioned piece, a
portrait of a beloved Chow dog, of a former B&B guest.
Karin's
created a website for her art and she's shares this
passion with friend Jordan Newberry...check out
their website at
www.dreamonartworks.com where it is possible for
you to purchase artwork as well. She is a
member of the
North Georgia Arts Guild
and
Swain County Center for the Arts
She has also thrust her
creative efforts in website design, learning how to create and host websites and
developed a small business called "Web on Wheels"
www.w-o-w.biz.
Having grown up some in Alaska and
Hawaii, she feels at home in the mountains of
Western North Carolina, an area that is conducive to
both tourism and painting because of its natural
beauty and tranquility.
Karin's artwork is available for
sale at the Inn. She soon hopes to add a line of ceramic pottery and
platters that will available for purchase.
